Bacteria are single celled, non-photosyntetic living organisms without a nucleus.

INTRODUCTION

Bacteria re the simplest fully functioning living organisms. Even though viruses are simpler, many experts believe that thay they do not fulfill the requierements for living organisms. They differ from more complex single celled organisms (eukaryotes) in that they do not have a nucleus, so their DNA is spread throughout the entirety of the cell. They differ from blue-green algae in that they do not engage in photosyntesis so they do not contain chlorophyl, the green dye possesed by plants.
